Proton Beam Therapy Machine smashes cancer cells with a thin beam of high-speed subatomic particles.

This machine was built at Production Tool Corporation for a German company.

Proton beam therapy is a new type of irradiation that destroys tumor cells more effectively. The most common radiation therapy used worldwide is carried out with tiny light particles (usually x-rays) called photons. In contrast, proton therapy uses the charged nuclei (ions) of hydrogen atoms. Thanks to highly complex equipment, these rays can be directed at the tumor with high precision at more than 75% the speed of light.
